The Milani Training Academy for Ethnic Hair Design (MTA) is a pioneering institution dedicated to equipping aspiring hairstylists with specialized skills in African hair braiding and styling through a comprehensive 6-day specialized curriculum training program.
The academy is solely focused on African ethnic hair design and fills a critical gap in the economic empowerment that lies in the artistry and technique of ethnic hairstyling.
In this specialized curriculum, the students can expect to walk away with critical and sought-after skills in African hair braiding, styling and business acumen. Each module includes a blend of theoretical and practical knowledge which culminates in a practical exam on the final day.
CURRICULUM SUMMARY
Day 1
Foundations of African Hair Braiding (Module 1)
Students are introduced to the fundamentals of hairstyling, including the value of a hairstylist, ethnic hair textures, scalp care, and hair health. Practical sessions focus on blow-drying, sectioning, and parting techniques, leading into basic 3-strand and 2-strand braiding on mannequins.
Day 2
Advanced Braiding Techniques (Module 2)
This session covers knotless braids and cornrow techniques, emphasizing precision, tension control, and feed-in methods. Afternoon sessions advance into stitch braids and designer cornrow styles, preparing students for intricate and high-demand designs.
Day 3
Faux Locs, Dreadlocks & Natural Styling (Module 3)
Students explore faux locs and natural dreadlocks, learning installation, maintenance, and retouching methods. The day concludes with hands-on styling of natural locs, ensuring students master both modern and traditional loc techniques.
Day 4
Business & Client Management (Module 4)
A shift towards entrepreneurship and professionalism, this day covers pricing strategies, social media marketing, and customer consultation skills. The afternoon session focuses on speed and efficiency training, preparing students to work effectively under time constraints with live models.
Day 5
Trendy Styles & Final Preparation (Module 5)
Students explore goddess braids, Fulani styles, and bridal creations, including ponytail phondo styles and beading techniques. The day concludes with final Q&A, a mock exam and preparation for the final practical assessment.
Day 6: Practical Exam & Certification
Students must complete a full hairstyle on live models, demonstrating neatness, speed, and overall professionalism. After grading and feedback, successful candidates receive their certification, marking the start of their journey as professional hairstylists.
